place your hands directly under your shoulders. Spread your fingers to balance your body on your arms. Push ups are a full body workout. With almost all full body workouts it is imperative to flex every major muscle group. Other than your arms, flex your abs and keep them tight. Flex your abs out (which is common because it is easier) will cause you to build out and result in a manly physique. Keep your back straight. Push ups are similar to plank pose in yoga. Keeping your body like a "plank" (completely straight and flat) will help you perfect the exercise. If you find you do not have the upper arm stregnth to do the proper push up I suggest you get a pilates ball. With a pilates ball, you place your stomach area on the ball and do a push up. This takes the weight off you knees which can be uncomfortable. The best exercise with the pilates ball is to first place your chest on the ball and do twelve push ups. Then place your upper abs on the ball and do ten push ups. Move the ball down your body (from upper abs to lower abs to pelvis) decreasing the set number by two. Go from 12, 10, 8, 6. If you have any questions responddddd! I've never explained my routine before. Haha! ♥

That's a great way to start getting your arms to push your body weight. Make sure the balance is right and you bring your chest as low as possible. Once you start getting used to your body weight you can do full push ups with your legs straightened out. The key to any exercise is form. Make sure your form is correct at all times, you will benefit more from the exercise.

(Anonymous): Correct form

Like the other commenter said, make sure you do correct push ups to really make your chest muscles work.
